The 14th CAEXPO and the 14th CABIS, important bridges, platforms and bonding between China and ASEAN, have been concluded with complete success
Hundreds journalists from over 200 Chinese and international media attended the closing press conference of the 14th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 14th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) held at the Press Center of the Nanning International Convention & Exhibition Center (NICEC) on September 15th.
4 days ago, the opening ceremony of the two grand events was convened at the NICEC Osmanthus Hall, attracting leaders, ministerial dignitaries and business celebrates of China, ASEAN and other countries along the Belt and Road.
The 14th CAEXPO and the 14th CAEXPO have achieved major breakthroughs and remarkable outcomes.
More consensuses were pooled, fostering bilateral friendly cooperation into a new stage
Altogether 9 current and former state leaders were presented the events, including Vice Premier of the State Council Zhang Gaoli, Mr. Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress and Chairman of Red Cross Society of China, and Madam Gu Xiulian, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People’s Congress and Chairwoman of the China-ASEAN Association from the Chinese side, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen of Cambodia, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh of Vietnam, First Deputy Prime Minister Askar Mamin of Kazarkhstan, Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay SIPHANDONE of Lao PDR, and former deputy prime minister Korn Dabaransi of Thailand from the ASEAN side and beyond. In addition, ministerial leaders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand as well as Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN also have headed delegations to the two events. Altogether 230 ministerial officials have participated in the events, including 129 ones from the ASEAN side.
A series of high-level friendly exchange events have been hosted. Chinese vice premier Zhang Gaoli held 5 bilateral meetings and talks with the visiting leaders of ASEAN countries, attended and addressed the 1st China-Kazakhstan Sub-national Cooperation Forum along with his Kazakh counterpart. When addressing the opening ceremony, all the visiting leader highly acclaimed the CAEXPO for its roles in promoting friendly and fruitful cooperation between China and ASEAN and reaffirmed their resolve to deepen the all-round friendly cooperation and jointly shape the Belt and Road routes.
Illuminating Co-built Silk Roads for Our Shared Aspirations, theme of the opening ceremony, is a metaphor that China, ASEAN and other countries along the Belt and Road jointly light the lamps of peace, prosperity, opening-up, innovation and civilization, illuminating the China-ASEAN Community of Shared Future with vision and hope.
More tangible business outcomes have been produced, conductive to upgrading the China-ASEAN FTA
Richer economic and trade outcomes: As a new exhibition hall, Hall E, has been put into use, more booths are accommodated. 8 ASEAN member countries set up their independent commodity pavilions, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. 2709 enterprises from home and aboard join the 14th CAEXPO as exhibitors. All these figures are larger than those of the previous session. 80 business and investment promotion programs have been arranged during the fair period, reaping rich fruits. Promotion conferences of ASEAN countries, the CAEXPO special partner and Chinese provinces and cities, the CAEXPO Roundtable Meeting on Investment Cooperation and Promotion Conference on ASEAN Industrial Parks, a business networking event with Chinese economic and commercial counselors in the ASEAN countries and many other events have been hosted, helping put more investment cooperation project into place.
New progress in international production capacity cooperation: The exhibition on international production capacity cooperation is extended to those key fields like railway, non-ferrous metal, power, building materials and engineering machinery. A number of brand and leading enterprises have been drawn, such as Aluminum Corporation of China Limited, China State Construction, China Road and Bridge Corporation, China Railway Group Limited, China Gezhouba Group Limited, Huarun and Guangxi Investment Group Company Limited, etc. Forums on production capacity and investment cooperation were held between China and 3 ASEAN member countries, namely, Cambodia, the Philippines and Vietnam, together with the Roundtable Meeting on Production Capacity Cooperation among the Lancang-Mekong Countries. Matching events have been held between Chinese leading enterprises with 10-odd industrial parks of the ASEAN countries, where a number of agreements on cooperation projects have been concluded.
A new mechanism put in place to strengthen the synergy and complementarities between the CAEXPO and the Belt and Road Initiative: The CAEXPO, for the very first time, has a country along the Silk Road Economic Belt as its special partner. During the fair period, Kazakhstan has hosted a forum on sub-national cooperation with China, set up a national image display zone and organized its promotion conference, promoting the cooperation between the countries along the Road and those along Belt. The first-ever Belt and Road Exhibition was organized to promote unimpeded trade along the routes. Distinctive products of countries such as Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, India, Egypt, Nepal and Pakistan have been displayed, attracting a number of buyers. The International Pavilion attracted exhibiting enterprises from the US, the UK, Germany, Australia, Poland, Iran Georgia and Garner, promoting economic and trade cooperation with countries beyond the China-ASEAN region.
More fruitful high-end events: 36 high-level forums have been or will be held under the CAEXPO framework. Among them, 25 ones held during the fair period include the China-ASEAN Summit Forum on Financial Cooperation & Development, the China-ASEAN Port Cities Cooperation Network Working Conference, the Forum on China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation, the China-ASEAN Statistics Forum, China-ASEAN Mayors' Forum and China-ASEAN Red Cross & Red Crescent Fraternity Forum, etc. Those sideline events on agriculture, insurance, space information corridor, electric power, biomass, disaster prevention and reduction and environmental protection have scored tangible outcomes. All this has helped launch or carry out projects, complement with and enrich the Nanning Channel for China-ASEAN cooperation.
More business-friendly services for fairgoers: New measures were adopted to improve exhibition management and services, and supporting facilities were upgraded. A joint law enforcement team was established; Advanced Customs supervision equipment were put into use to facilitate customs clearance and logistics service for exhibits; online application through Internet has been promoted to make booth construction and tear-down more efficient; catering service was further improved by inviting more quality providers who serve Chinese and western and Halal fast food, and local snacks of Guangxi. Traditional industry players were picked up and included into the list of service providers, to meet the needs and demands of fairgoers more effectively; more shuttle buses and taxies have been provided. Additionally, DiDi was invited to offer app-based mobility service for the very first time; more business-talk areas were set aside; more self-service pass-making equipment was adopted. In addition, hotel service, direct chartered flights, language service and volunteers’ service have all been improved, for the event participants to have a more comfortable, convenient, efficient and safer environment.
CABIS: A more effective platform for business exchanges between China and ASEAN
The 14th CABIS has more effectively represented the business communities of China and the 10 ASEAN countries to the political dignitaries. After hosting a series of sideline programs and events, including the Roundtable Dialogue between Brunei leader and Chinese CEOs, the China-ASEAN Business Leaders’ Forum, the Networking Program for China-ASEAN E-commerce Platform and the Symposium on China-ASEAN Commercial Law Cooperation, the Summit has promoted P-to-B dialogues, arranged project owners to talk with potential investors and helped enterprises establish partnership with their international counterparts in economy, trade, investment, connectivity and production capacity, etc.
The CAEXPO grows more influential within the region and beyond
210 mainstream and industry media from home and aboard have sent 1442 journalists to cover the 14th CAEXPO, including 116 journalists from 70 media of ASEAN and other countries. News coverage focused on the progress made in upgrading of the China-ASEAN FTA and enormous business opportunities that will be created by the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Many media had live broadcast on the opening ceremony. All the visiting state leaders highly commented on the 14th CAEXPO when addressing the opening ceremony.
At the CAEXPO Senior Officials Meeting held yesterday, all the parties concerned unanimously agreed that the 15th CAEXPO is scheduled to take place on September 12th through 15th, 2018, along with the 15th CABIS. According to relevant mechanism, Cambodia will be the Country of Honor for the 15th CAEXPO.
The 14th CAEXPO has come to its closure, but it is not a stop or an end of the bilateral cooperation. Under the promising Belt and Road initiative, China and ASEAN shall have every confidence that the bilateral exchanges and cooperation will be increasingly closer and stronge
